Ohio Commercial Activity Tax (CAT)
The commercial activity tax (CAT) is an annual tax imposed on the privilege of doing business in Ohio, measured by gross receipts from business activities in Ohio. Businesses with Ohio taxable gross receipts of $150,000 or more per calendar year must register for the CAT, file all the applicable returns, and make all corresponding payments.
The program provides a refundable tax credit against a company’s corporate franchise or income tax based on the state income tax withheld from new, full-time employees.

Research undertaken for the purpose of discovering information that is technological in nature and the application of which is intended to be useful in the development of a new or improved product, process, technique, formula, or invention.
